Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation
Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation was established in 1946 through a bequest from Dr. John E. Mason Jr. (Pennsylvania 1913), the spiritual founder of Lambda Chi Alpha.
Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation offers a variety of awards to assist our chapters and colonies, undergraduate members and alumni members.
Academic and study abroad scholarships are offered on an annual basis to award academic excellence and financial need.
The Foundation also offers assistance for undergraduate members to attend leadership training, such as the Stead Leadership Seminar and the High Alpha Summit.
The Educational Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of distinguished alumni brothers. The Educational Foundation’s Professional Staff is led by Dan Hartmann (Truman State 2007) as President and CEO.

Brothers with demonstrated financial need due to a qualified disaster* may receive direct funds for essential needs: food, shelter, medical needs, and employment-critical transportation. Grants are available for up to $500 based on the applicant’s unique situation. Grants CANNOT be used to pay for member dues.
If you are facing financial hardship, please apply for emergency aid through the Anchor Fund by completing an application. The Grants Committee will review applications as they are received and award grants on an individual basis based on the situation of the applicant.
*Members must have been impacted by a qualified disaster as defined by the US Internal Revenue Code (IRC). A qualified disaster is defined by section 139(c) of the IRC as:
- a disaster which results from a terroristic or military action (as defined in section 692(c)(2)),
- a federally declared disaster (as defined by section 165(i)(5)(A)),
- a disaster which results from an accident involving a common carrier, or from any other event, which is determined by the Secretary to be of a catastrophic nature, or
- with respect to amounts described in subsection (b)(4), a disaster which is determined by an applicable Federal, State, or local authority (as determined by the Secretary) to warrant assistance from the Federal, State, or local government or agency or instrumentality thereof.
Additional requirements must be met to be eligible for a disaster relief grant:
- You must be a current member (Associate Member, Collegiate Brother, or Alumnus) in good standing
- You must have demonstrated good faith to explore other funding options (insurance, free or low-cost services, other student aid, etc.).
Priority will go to current students (Associate Members and Collegiate Brothers) and Alumni Brothers who have graduated within the past ten years and have never received an Anchor Fund award.
If you are unsure if your situation meets the requirements to be considered a qualified disaster, please get in touch with the Educational Foundation staff at [email protected] before applying.
